Joyride Tampa HIV Awareness: 165 Miles of Hope Raises $282K

On a crisp Saturday morning, riders crossed the finish line at Albert Whitted Airport, completing 165 miles from Orlando in the Joyride Tampa HIV event to raise money for HIV services.

The annual Joyride fundraiser brought in more than $282,000, all of which will benefit local programs offering testing, prevention, counseling, and housing assistance for people living with HIV.

joyrideFor participants like Juan Orellana, the ride is both a personal challenge and a public statement. “Cycling this distance is tough,” Orellana said. “But knowing every mile helps someone in our community makes it worthwhile.”

Event organizer Bill Bone highlighted the importance of community involvement. “Every rider, every donor, every mile matters,” Bone said. “The Joyride is about hope, awareness, and real impact for local HIV programs.”

The ride, which draws participants from across the state, serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by people living with HIV. EPIC, one of the organizations supported by the Joyride, highlighted the increasing need for services amid declining federal funding.

Organizers said the Joyride is unique because all funds raised go directly to local programs. Riders train for months, often fundraising along the way, and the culmination of the event is a celebration of community, resilience, and hope.
