Racing Team History
Origins and Early Years
- The team originated as XRS Racing in the late 1980s, formed by riders previously with the Raleigh and Subaru teams.
- Started with a small budget and local sponsors.
- Gained recognition and received sponsorship from Motorola Paging Division, located in Boynton Beach, Florida.
Expansion and Achievements
- The team included international riders such as Dutchman Bertus Kroon and Irishman Paul Riley and Australian Ian Jackson.
- In 1993, Hope Chiropractic joined as a sponsor.
- The team boasted several national champions: Lynne Joslyn, Deborah Vanderlaan, and Joanne McCranels.
Transition to Bill Bone Sponsorship
- In 1998, Bill Bone became a sponsor alongside Canary Cycling Clothing, forming the Bill Bone Canary Cycling Team.
- After Canary Clothing ceased, the team became associated with the Law Office of Bill Bone.
- By 2000-2001, the team was officially renamed the Bill Bone Racing Team, with Bill Bone as the title sponsor.
- Key athletes like Deborah Vanderlaan and Joanne McCranels remained, earning more national titles; other notable state champions included Dave Vanderlaan, Mark Hassell, and Carol Hassell.
Integration of Triathletes and Continued Success
- A group of triathletes merged with the team, broadening its capabilities.
- Carol Hassell distinguished herself as a four-time world age group triathlon champion and holder of multiple national and state titles; often ranked #1 in her age group across multiple multi-sport disciplines. Carol has raced in Kona 7 times finishing as high as second in her age group. Other Hawaii Ironman athletes include Eileen Callahan, Rob Anderson and Mark Hassell.
- Team members have competed in Ironmans in Hawaii, China, Brazil, France and Switzerland. They continue to participate in races across Florida.
Recent Developments and Current Status
- In 2025, the 561 Titans (a Pro 1-2 team) joined the Bill Bone Racing Team, revitalizing the racing calendar with highly competitive athletes.
- Recent competitions, such as the state championships and Criterium Championships in West Palm Beach, resulted in two gold medals and several podium finishes. At the State Road Race Championships, the Team won gold, silver and bronze medals.
- The team remains active and competitive throughout South Florida and is entering the second half of the current racing season.
- The team has renewed sponsorship with Bill Bone Bike Law and established a new association with the Bill Bone Law Group.
